Birchbox Review: December 2013

I love how Birchbox changed up the design of its December box. Apparently this is an annual thing. The font is so whimsical- love it!

December is definitely a time for celebrating and this month’s Birchbox has items that will make the upcoming weeks even more celebratory. Okay, celebrate good times and let me share what I got this month.

Wild Honey Apothecary Buttermilk Sandalwood Honey Mud– 0.35 oz (full size 2 oz $20)

Camille Beckman Glycerine Hand Therapy– 0.25 oz (full size 6 oz $14)

I love getting lotion samples and this one, while small, is a perfect size for carrying in an evening clutch during the holidays. The honey mud is a bit perplexing for me as I have oily skin and neither the description on Birchbox nor the description on Wild Honey’s website indicate whether it is good for all skin types. So I will need to proceed with caution on this one. But it is a very thick mask (as one can expect from a product made with organic, locally sourced honey) and smells really good.

Number 4 Non-Aerosol Hair Spray– 1 oz/30 ml (full size 200 ml $30)

I normally do not wear hair spray but I do look forward to trying this. This spray delivers a flexible hold, is vegan and free of gluten, sulfates and parabens.

Jouer Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Pink Glace– .08 oz (full size 0.17 oz $20)

I’ve been on a lip product kick lately. Seriously- I usually carry no less than 6 lip products in my cosmetic bag (don’t judge me!). So I love getting lippy samples. This is a new brand to me and the color is a light shimmery pink that will be great alone or layered over another color. Hmmm… maybe even theBalm’s Stainiac that I got in November!

Chuao Chocolatier Chocolate Bar in Popcorn Pop– 0.39 oz (full size 2.8 oz $6)

I was so not prepared to eat this. The packaging states it offers a “surprising POP in milk chocolate” and they were not kidding! I was surprised when the chocolate literally started popping in my mouth. If you just chomp it down it’s not a problem, but if you let it linger in your mouth just brace yourself!

This is an extra sample that wasn’t listed on the card. To encourage people to download and use its new mobile app, Birchbox included this digimate that you can use to clean your screen and stick on the back of your phone. They are offering a 20% discount when you shop from its mobile app, so definitely worth a try!

All in all I am pleased with my box. Although I must admit I loved the November box even more. But this box is a great way to wrap up the year. And stay tuned! I am working on a Best of Birchbox 2013 post recapping my favorite samples from the year.
